How bionic reading works
When you read fluently, you don't process every letter - your brain recognizes a word from its shape and first letters, then predicts the rest. Bionic reading leans into that: by bolding the opening letters, it gives your eyes a clear anchor on every word, so the path through a sentence is obvious and you spend less effort tracking your place.

Does bionic reading actually work?
Honest answer: the independent research is still early and results are mixed, so we don't promise a specific speed boost. The mechanism is sound, and reader response is strongly positive - especially from people with ADHD who report fewer zoning-out moments. The best test is your own eyes: paste a few paragraphs into the converter and see whether it helps you.

Bionic reading FAQ
What is bionic reading?
Bionic reading is a text-formatting method that bolds the first few letters of each word to create fixation points. Your eyes lock onto those bold anchors and your brain fills in the rest of the word, so you can move through text with less visual effort. It was popularized by Swiss designer Renato Casutt and went viral in 2022.
Does bionic reading actually work?
The independent research is still early and mixed, so we don't cite specific speed numbers. What's well established is the mechanism it leans on: skilled readers only need part of each word before the brain recognizes it, so a strong initial-letter cue can reduce the effort of tracking your place. Many readers - especially those with ADHD - report fewer zoning-out moments. Try it and judge for yourself.
Is the bionic reading converter free?
Yes. Paste any text into the FastRead bionic reader and it converts instantly, free and with no sign-up. The FastRead app (iPhone and Android) is also free and bionic-reads articles, PDFs and ebooks.
Is there a bionic reading font?

How do I use bionic reading on my phone?
